Last Minute Push...

Ryan took this weekend off and decided to take advantage of being off today to make one last big push to get as much done as possible before heading to the hills. Some people, including Ryan, do anything to get out of work! With that said, not much is going to get done as far as the house goes between tomorrow (Sat.) and Thursday, except for the drywall...

The soffit work continues...

and the back part of the house is now fully sided. It's an easy job, but very, very time consuming. Especially when you have to cut, bend, etc. the metal to go around the beams.

The insulation guys showed up today, to finish the insulation now that the drywall has been hung.

Soffit and Siding...

The drywall continues and more soffit and siding is installed. There is almost as much soffit to install as siding because of our big porch! The soffit is a bit slower process, but none the less it's a job that must be done! How much is he going to get done before tomorrow night?

Can you believe it? Ryan is magic and can walk on the side of the house...who knew? Haha!

The heat is definately on getting as much done on the house as possible. Why?...because the long awaited, BIG archery hunt starts Saturday AM and Ryan will be gone until next Thursday, just in time to go back to work Friday. For him not just off work, but a week off housework! The mighty hunter and his priorities... :)

Siding Picked Up...

As the drywall progress continues, the siding wait ends. Ryan and his daddy went and picked up the siding today and then finished the soffit and facia on the back of the house .

The color matches the windows almost perfectly! Ryan wanted the siding to be one color and then the facia and soffit darker than the siding, like most houses...but lucky me, I won!!! It's all one color! Phew!

...More Drywall...

From here until the drywall is complete there is going to be little noticeable change since the work is layer upon layer of the same thing! It is a very important part in the home building step and I think the guy that is doing it is a winner! It looks great for finishing drywall!

Lots of lines and stripes everywhere!

Looking More Livable...

One and a half days of work and the hanging of the drywall is complete! They finished the kitchen/family room, staircase, laundry/mudroom, living room, masterbedroom, master bedroom/closet. If you couldn't really imagine it before, you certainly can now! All of the rooms now have definition. I'm lovin' it!

Did I mention how well they cleaned their mess up? If there wasn't sheets of drywall on the walls, you probably wouldn't even know they had been there! That made me very happy!

The time consuming part of the drywall job starts tomorrow...

Taping Begins...

Well, today the taper arrived and that part of the drywall begins...

The siding is ordered so in a few days, that fun begins!

Ceilings And Walls...

Today was a very busy day so neither of us went to the house until it was dark...however, when we walked in we could tell that the drywall in the spare bath, bedroom, pantry and all the ceilings downstairs were hung! Yay!

...just another step closer!

Another Big Step...

Is ready to begin! All of the drywall material was delivered today! The drywall sheets are so long! The inside of our house is going to look completely different in a few days...I can't wait!

Ryan finished framing the inset in the wall over my sink and blocked in where the fireplace is.... and other little stuff before they start putting up drywall.

Moving/Adding Gas Line

In order to get a can light in the right spot in the kitchen the gas pipe needed to move just a bit up. While they had the pipes undone they decided they should run a pipe to the upstairs...you know just in case we ever wanted to have a fireplace or stove at some point up there.

After the gas line was all put in place, Ryan was able to finish installing the last can light.

Insulation and Framing

The insulation guys came today…

Apparently, it looked like it was snowing in our house while they were here.

Ryan also started framing upstairs at about 9:45 PM even though we are not finishing it yet. Yes, I said PM….some of our lights he has hooked up. So now he can work even when it is dark outside. It definitely makes for a little cooler working environment when the sun goes down!

We were just going to have a door at the top of the stairs, but the inspector said we had to have a three-foot landing so Ryan moved the doorframe. I love where it is at with a little cubby area on the side, but how are we supposed to ever get furniture up there? Trust me Ryan thought of this also, but there is no other way to do it and be able to open up the door. I am sure this will change eventually…probably when we finish it.

Fireplace…

We were going to wait to put in the fireplace since the only ones Ryan will use are EXPENSIVE! He is a little biased when it comes to them since he installed them for a few years. Any who, Gary, the man that always finds a great deal, found us one for $50.00. That’s right and all it needed was a good cleaning and a few small parts. It is a little older model so it will actually put out more heat than the new ones do. It actually makes me excited to have it cold outside, so I can flip the switch and cuddle up by the fire!

My mom and dad are so nice…they decided to come down and pick sticker weeds. We have so many!!! They are free if anyone would like some…you can have as many as you would like. I am certainly not looking forward to dealing with the stickers for several years to come. Oh well!

They picked five black bags full and there is still a lot to pick! Ugh! Thanks for helping pick those darn weeds!!!

Floor Picking...

My mom and I went today to decide on what flooring options we have. What we really want is real hardwood...you know the stuff that gets nailed and every few years you have to sand and refinish. However, right now on our budget that is NOT even an option. Over $3000.00 just to do the kitchen and little living room. Ryan said if he laid tile it was not ever coming up, so we really do not want that. So we have decided that for now we will do the kitchen in vinyl. Nowadays, it actually looks really good! And in a few years when we can afford our wood floor it will be very easy to pull up. We brought a few books home and I am so glad we did. I sat down with all my samples of the ones I liked, both carpet and vinyl. I went through them all and decided which ones I liked the best and then showed Ryan when he got home. He liked them all that I had chosen. What can I say great minds think alike! We decided we should take our samples down to the house to see what they would look like in our lighting. My choices were confirmed...

As we were walking out the door I thought we should see what the vinyl looks like with our cabinets. I am so glad that we did...the vinyl I liked the best looked AWFUL with our cabinets! Even my dad said it looked bad, which means it looks horrible! So, we decided on another few.... now we just need to decide which one we like better...

Upstairs Windows...

We received the rest of our windows for upstairs a few weeks ago and today Ryan installed them. It looks so, so much better!

More Cable Wiring...

Like we need a television everywhere...Ryan thinks we do! Whatever! I just love the peace and quiet of a house, but I don't think our house will be quiet by any means. I quess I will have to take advantage of that when Ryan is at work!

All of the black wires are for cable...I don't think we have enough! :) Hey, atleast they are all in an organized fashion, right?
