Baby It’s Cold Outside…

the high was only in the middle 50’s today and the temperature was dropping as the day progressed.

They got the front gables shingled…and some more of the roof of course!

If that is not a steep roof we have, I don't know what is!

Then the wind began to blow…and it blew HARD for that matter! After a few failed attempts of trying to get the shingles in place and nailed before the wind took over, they called it a day. A good call I would say, more rain followed…really it is JUNE!

Roofing...

On both the front and the back, the roof is shingled from the bottom halfway up...

then the wind started to blow, and then it started to rain...that ended the day of hard work!

We received a special delivery today...

trusses for the rest of my porch. I can't wait to be able to sit out on my wonderful porch no matter what the crazy weather brings and enjoy sunsets like this...

there is nothing like the one's on a stormy evening.

Finally...

Our dormer trusses came today and the house is looking even better!

I really do love our house and I am glad that Ryan was thinking of me when he was drawing the plans. I am also glad that he is building it, because he takes the extra time to make sure everything is just right! We are so very lucky for all the great help that we are always receiving...Thanks!

I always come just in time to help them clean-up... remember, cleaning is my official home building job title!

Success...

I was dreading going down to the house today expecting to find even more water. My body certainly doesn't feel all that great...I am sore everywhere today. Who knew that falling down the staris would make your neck, arms, legs, abs and of course my butt hurt so bad - maybe I am just getting old! I did find some water, but not very much! Actually very little...and that was great! I pretty much just had to go upstairs and push up on the plastic where the water had accumulated. Other than that just a little in the front of the house and that is just about it.
When my parents got home from their trip to Iowa I took them down there to see what we had gotten done since they left a little over two weeks ago. I am glad that they went with me because we discovered water in some of the ventilation that is covered in insulation and then covered in black plastic. My dad pricked it with a small nail and out drained the water. Hopefully it all dries out quickly.
This coming week should be great...the forecast said it should be in the 80's for much of the week. However, rain again at the end of the week. :( Hopefully we will get our dormer trusses so they can finish roofing! That sure would be a great!

Another Crummy Day…

of water cleanup. I got the job by myself today since Ryan is working. Yay for me! The plastic on the gables helped quite a bit actually, but there was still a significant amount of water on the floors. I walked upstairs to find that because of the ridiculously strong winds, the plastic on the East side had come undone in places and needed to be fixed. I immediately got to work. The only thing I had was nails and a hammer instead of a staple gun…Ryan just happened to have the keys to the work trailer. So I used what I had. The wind was still blowing like crazy and it took all I had to hold the plastic in place while still holding a nail and hammering with the other hand. Needless to say, I hit my pointer finger once, and it was bleeding everywhere. I tried to ignore it because I knew I needed to continue my job…. All I could think of, what a nightmare this was!

The day didn’t get any better too quickly I started down the stairs and noticed that the rain was coming in the family room sideways. The stairs cannot get wet because the wood used for it will just fall apart…so I went and cut some plastic and was making my way down and was about on the 6th stair up when I fell and slid on my butt the rest of the way down the stairs (No, I didn't have my flip-flops on today). It hurt so bad! Again, tried to ignore the pain and started sucking up all the water the rain and wind had brought in with the vacuum. It didn’t ever get as bad as it had yesterday thank goodness. I made a few more trips down to suck up yet more water. Seriously, is this rain and wind ever going to stop?

Everywhere that is dark, it is wet! This was after I had cleaned up the water.

Bring over your suits! You can go swimming in our front yard! :)

Rain, Rain Go Away…

I tried calling Ryan after I got off work to see what his plans were…no answer, which means he was at the house. So I drove down to see what was going on…when I arrived he hadn’t been home and was still in his work gear. I could tell that he was just a little irritated to say the least. I asked him,” Why are you so happy?”…he never answered, but gave me “the look” and walked back into the house. I followed him and soon enough knew why he was so happy…

We had water and LOTS of it EVERYWHERE! It didn’t just rain today, it poured...several times in fact! I felt like at any point the house was just going to start floating away like Noah’s Ark. Okay, it wasn’t that bad, but I had flip- flops on that have about an half inch sole and just standing there my feet were in water. We both got to work because we knew the water couldn’t just stay on the floor and it was going to be dark sooner than we wanted it to be. He had the vacuum and I had the broom. A few hours and several vacuum canister dumps later we had as much water off of the sub floor as we possibly could, for now anyway.

Before I arrived Ryan had went upstairs and covered the gables the best he could with heavy duty plastic. Of course I had to put my two cents in and mention that maybe the plastic should have been done yesterday like I had said :) …nonetheless, I sure hope it helps tonight!

New Lines…

both water and sewer. Because we have no yard in we decided to go ahead and replace the lines so we won’t have to do it later. It was a good thing…back in the “olden days” the pipes used to be metal…our water line was corroded, bad. It certainly wouldn’t have lasted much longer that’s for sure.

In the for-cast for this weekend it is supposed to be RAINY yet again! Enough already! It rained last night also and of course there is water in the house, UGH! So, it was decided to just get as much of the roof shingled before it was too dark. They made it up the front about half way. Until we get our gable trusses that is about as high as they can shingle at this point anyway.

The color of our roof is Barkwood by Timberline.
They are so fast! They definately have a system down and you can definately tell they have done it for years!

I am absoulutely in love with my family room windows and the beautiful view I get from them ...I thought the sunset made the mountains so pretty! I love how it made the tops of the mountains pink!
