Hard Work Begins...

On Friday the 30th of April we turned in our plans and paperwork to the city for approval. Today, we received the permit after many deliberations with the city (really Ryan and his brothers have built many houses from ground up, they know what they are doing). It was frustrating because Ryan had gone to the city prior to closing on the house and told them what it was that we were planning on doing to see what was required and the cost of the permit. When it came down to it they went back on what they had previously told him. It is all resolved now, but there were a few changes we have to make, which I guess is not all bad. One thing we were kind of bummed about is we can’t just have a slab on for the addition. We have to have at least a crawl space. With the trusses that we are getting we cannot have vaulted ceilings, but we needed that extra wall height. Yep, I finally got used to the idea that this guy (Ryan’s pride and joy) was going in our family room…
Oh well, I guess he will have to stay in the garage for now!

The hard work begins…the old porches are gone! Ryan had to use the cement saw and cut them apart because they were way too heavy for the tractor to lift into the dump trailer. He took the cut up porches to the cement recycling and hey, we only had to pay $25.00 to get rid of it. Sounds like a lot, but the dump would have been a fortune!

We had an excavator all lined up for tomorrow to dig the new additions hole for footings and foundation. Instead though, Ryan decided he would just do it himself (that’s how he rolls) with the skid steer and save us a few hundred dollars. Many loads of dirt were hauled away and the rest lies around the perimeter for the backfill. Bring on the footings and foundation…
